Get to know Sedric in this Q&A:
Q: What excites you most about your work with 1000 Feathers?
A: What excites me the most is the ability to learn from and help shape communities here in South Carolina and across the Southeast. After spending some time away, returning back to the South has been great. South Carolina is my home and I've always wanted to find ways of giving back however I can. I'm happy that my experience, thoughts, and ideas can contribute to further developing organizations working to create change for the better.
Q: What's one lesson you've learned that you wish more people knew?
A: Life is truly a journey with multiple stages. It will ebb and flow. You don't have to have it all figured out at 18, and you don't have to stop figuring it out when you're older. Continuously learn, grow and experience life as best you can.
Q: If you had a personal theme song, what would it be?
A: This has probably changed as I've gotten older, but right now I'll say, Bury Me in Gold by Big K.R.I.T. To me, the song speaks to the aspirations we have in life whether they be material or otherwise. In the end, it’s up to us to determine what's golden in our lives.
Q: When you aren't hard at work with 1000 Feathers, what's keeping you busy?
A: First and foremost, my family. I am a husband and father, and I enjoy being present for my wife and daughter however they need me. If you ask my wife, trying to save the world is what keeps me busy. In addition to that, I am actively serving the Columbia community and surrounding area with my graduate chapter in my fraternity Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated. I also enjoy watching movies, sports, traveling, reading, and playing co-ed softball.
Q: What is one book or podcast that has really stuck with you that you would recommend to others?
A: Podcast: Quote of the Day Show. On this podcast, there are lots of leaders, actors, writers, speakers, etc. sharing motivational quotes and thoughts. It has helped me move forward personally and professionally.
Book: Give & Take by Adam Grant. As someone who gives of himself often, this book showed me that some of the best leaders are those who are willing to give and share their knowledge and expertise willingly.
